A British IT worker who has been on sick leave since 2008 sued IBM for failing to raise his salary during his long absence. Ian Clifford went on medical leave due to mental health issues, later developing more serious ailments. In 2013, he formally complained that his salary was not being increased. IBM had enrolled him in a Sickness and Accident Plan that paid 75% of his last-drawn salary (roughly £54,000 per year) until retirement. However, in 2022, Clifford filed a fresh claim arguing that failing to increase his pay in line with inflation amounted to disability discrimination. In 2023, a tribunal judge dismissed his case, saying the lifetime salary plan itself was already an "exceptionally generous" benefit. Ref: Fossbytes
