The vision of robot police officers walking the streets — straight out of science fiction — has become reality. A number of major cities in China have begun deploying AI-powered humanoid robots to direct traffic and enforce public order, working alongside human police officers. Dubbed "RoboCop," these Intelligent Police Unit R001 robots were developed by AiMOGA Robotics. While they carry no firearms, the robots are equipped with high-performance cameras and sensors that allow them to instantly identify violations. They can detect red light runners, cyclists riding outside designated lanes, and cars parked in no-stopping zones — and issue immediate warnings. They can also skillfully perform hand signals in the middle of intersections to direct traffic. Deployed in cities including Wuhu, Chengdu, and Hangzhou, one of their key advantages is endurance — they can move quickly and work tirelessly in scorching heat or heavy rain, never complaining. They are already teaming up not just with human officers, but also with robotic patrol dogs. Interestingly, beyond traffic duties, these robots have been tested on dancing, drumming, calligraphy, and even nursing assistant tasks. According to Xinhua, China is aggressively accelerating its intelligent robotics sector, with the market projected to reach $57 billion by 2030. Ref: Bangkokpost
