Videos of a humanoid robot named "T-800," developed by Chinese technology company EngineAI, patrolling public areas in Shenzhen, China, alongside armed police officers have gone viral on social media. The footage shows the robot walking on streets in tandem with security personnel.
Passersby who witnessed the scene were amazed and recorded videos on their phones, making it feel like a scene from a science fiction movie.
The EngineAI robot has previously gained internet fame through demonstration videos showing it playing Kung Fu, maintaining balance, and walking naturally like humans.
Although the robot features a cutting-edge design and is named "T-800" (after the robot character from the Terminator film), it is currently only being used to assist and demonstrate alongside police officers on patrols. It is not yet capable of fully performing autonomous police duties.
China has been rapidly increasing the deployment of humanoid robots in public spaces and pilot programs. However, the emergence of videos showing the robot patrolling streets alongside police officers has sparked severe reactions and discussions among the public, with concerns about scenarios similar to those depicted in the Terminator film where robots could take over society.
