Chinese auto magazine Autohome tested 67 electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in the inner regions of Mongolia to evaluate the practical performance of electric cars in extreme cold weather with temperatures dropping to minus 25 degrees Celsius. The test measured aspects including driving range, charging speed, energy consumption, air conditioning systems, braking, acceleration, and off-road driving capability. Due to the extremely cold weather conditions, the driving range of all vehicles in the test decreased significantly.

XPeng P7 demonstrated the best performance by maintaining 53.9 percent of its rated driving range. Following that, BYD Yangwang U7 achieved 51.8 percent and Zeekr 001 achieved 49.6 percent respectively. Tesla Model 3 managed to drive 48 percent of its rated range, but Tesla Model Y could only achieve 35 percent and took 35 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent battery capacity.

Avatr 07 only took 15 minutes to charge from 30 percent to 80 percent battery capacity, making it the fastest-charging vehicle in the test. According to these test results, extremely cold weather can significantly reduce the driving range of electric vehicles, and there are performance variations in battery charging systems depending on the model type.
