Hong Kong is set to open its first 24-hour convenience store featuring humanoid robots that provide round-the-clock service, as the city accelerates the integration of AI technology into daily life. The store, to be opened soon at Hung Hom waterfront, will be staffed by humanoid robots capable of providing immediate service to local residents and international tourists in multiple languages. Additionally, the Hong Kong government has established a high-level committee to practically implement AI technology into life, with the committee's first meeting scheduled to begin this month, according to Finance Secretary Paul Chan.
This high-tech convenience store was created by an Embodied AI company from mainland China, marking their first step outside the country. Hong Kong's open market and advantages as a global fundraising hub have been able to attract these emerging technology companies. The newly established "AI+ and Industrial Development Strategy Committee" will include top-notch experts and will study effective ways to utilize humanoid robots and AI across various sectors including healthcare, science, and the social environment.
Furthermore, up to HK$500 million will be allocated for the "AI Training for All" program to familiarize the public with AI technology, with over 50,000 people to receive training within two years. In addition to providing practical training for students, young ambassadors will patiently assist elderly people in learning how to use AI to protect them from technology fraud. At the same time, Hong Kong is also enhancing its computing power, aiming to reach 180 petaflops by 2032.
