Japan's Institute of Science Tokyo has launched an unmanned robotics laboratory in its Yushima district.

The laboratory, named Robotics Innovation Center, operates with 10 robots conducting medical tests without a single human researcher present.

These robots repeatedly perform meticulous work such as culturing cells, handling laboratory equipment, and mixing chemical compounds—tasks that would otherwise require human attention.

The use of these robots aims to reduce human errors that occur when people perform such work, accelerate research operations, and enable the laboratory to operate continuously around the clock 24 hours without breaks.

While currently operating with a small number of robots, the university plans to significantly expand this system. By 2040, the university aims to deploy up to 2,000 robots in the laboratory to automate research operations even further, according to reports.
