Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the owner of English football club Liverpool, has sold a 30% stake in the club to 1892 Holdings. As a result of this transaction, Liverpool's valuation now ranges between £5 billion and £6 billion. 1892 Holdings is led by Amit Bhatia and backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.
Once the transaction is officially approved, Amit Bhatia will take on the role of Vice Chairman of the club and join the board of directors. For Jeff Bezos, this marks his first entry into the sports world, though he will not be directly involved in the board of directors.
Despite these new investments coming in, Premier League officials have clarified that no additional budget will be provided for the player transfer market. FSG will continue to maintain control of the club's operations and primary shareholding. This partnership with new investors aims to expand the club's brand internationally through growth in the Asian market and technological advancement. FSG acquired Liverpool in 2010 for £300 million, and from this 30% stake sale, it will receive over £1.5 billion.
