OpenAI says it will begin showing ads to some US users in ChatGPT. The ads will be tested with free users and subscribers of the lower-cost ChatGPT Go plan available globally. OpenAI will clearly separate ads from ChatGPT's responses, ensuring they don't influence how the AI answers questions. Users on Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans will not see ads. The company reiterated that it will continue to prioritize user trust — conversations will not be shared with or sold to advertisers, and ads will not influence ChatGPT's responses. Ads won't be shown to users under 18, and they will be disabled for sensitive topics such as health, mental health, and politics. During testing, ads will appear at the bottom of ChatGPT's answers labeled "Sponsored." Users will also be able to disable ads based on their conversations. OpenAI says it has no plans to insert ads into conversations about regulated topics. Advertisers, meanwhile, believe AI can make ads more targeted and effective than traditional formats.
