What will classrooms look like in the future? Realbotix, a company based in the Salamanca school district in New York State, has now demonstrated this, marking a milestone as the first time both an AI tutoring system and humanoid robots have been introduced into classrooms in American history. In this innovative project, an AI tutoring system called Optio will provide personalized close instruction to each student and assist with homework at any time of day or night, while also providing guidance in multiple languages. Additionally, it will greatly ease the workload of teachers in preparing lesson materials.
What is even more exciting is that students will not only be limited to learning from textbooks but will also have the opportunity to directly interact and communicate with Realbotix's M-Series humanoid robots in the classroom, fostering greater interest in technology and robotics.
This unique experiment has already begun in AI and robotics specialized classes, and within a few weeks, it is planned to expand to approximately 500 high school students by winter 2026. During this trial period, detailed observations and records will be kept on how much robots and AI will invigorate student engagement and how much they can reduce the workload burden on teachers.
