World's Richest Person Elon Musk Says He Holds Less Than 0.1% of His Net Worth in Cash
Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed that despite being the world's richest person, less than 0.1% of his net worth is held in cash, with most of his wealth tied up in Tesla and SpaceX stock.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk has revealed that despite being the world's richest person, he holds less than 0.1% of his net worth in cash.
Musk made the comment while responding on X (formerly Twitter) to Kalshi, which had predicted he has a high probability of becoming a trillionaire.
"My net worth is primarily due to shares I own in Tesla and SpaceX. I hold less than 0.1% in cash," Musk wrote.
He also noted that more than 80% of Tesla is owned by retail and institutional investors, and that Tesla and SpaceX employees receive stock as compensation.
Forbes estimates Musk's net worth at approximately $849.3 billion, which would put his cash holdings at roughly $850 million — a small fraction of his total wealth but still a significant sum by any ordinary measure.
