In Dublin, Ohio, USA, the Dubbot, a Knightscope K5 security robot assigned by the Dublin Police Department to patrol the Rock Cress parking lot, was decommissioned after operating for nearly 10 months.
The high-tech robot failed to meet the police department's operational requirements, and it was officially retired on May 12, 2026, according to reports.
The robot was actually equipped with comprehensive modern technology, including 360-degree panoramic cameras, two-way communication systems, Lidar navigation systems, and emergency call buttons.
However, throughout its operational period, it achieved zero arrests, zero incidents of violence, and no situations that warranted police calls—essentially accomplishing nothing.
In a low-crime parking lot, the robot was only able to walk around visibly and deter or monitor potential offenses, without demonstrating any measurable results for actual police work.
What's worse is that even after receiving a refund from the manufacturing company, the city spent approximately $67,548 (over $67,000) on this pilot program.
While initial plans called for expanding robot deployment, due to the high costs and lack of practical application, those plans were cancelled and the security robot was removed from the parking lot.
