Tesla's Texas Gigafactory has officially produced the first Cybercab, and the vehicle has no steering wheel or pedals. The fully driverless autonomous taxi will be operated solely by Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) system.
Elon Musk announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Cybercab production is set to begin in April, with the goal of mass production also in April 2026.
Tesla shared photos of employees celebrating the first car off the production line. The vehicle is not a prototype — it is the first car produced on a dedicated Cybercab production line, marking a major milestone in manufacturing. Designed as a two-passenger pod with full autonomy in mind, production rates may be slow initially due to a new modular assembly process, but the long-term goal is large-scale production.
The Cybercab is expected to be priced under $30,000 and will operate exclusively as an autonomous taxi. It will not include any manual override controls even in the event of a system failure.
