Google has officially unveiled "Nano Banana 2," an upgraded version of its AI image generation system that has been making waves for creating visuals from just a few typed words.
The original Nano Banana launched in August and gained considerable popularity. A follow-up, Nano Banana Pro — based on Gemini 3 Pro — was released to market in November.
The new Nano Banana 2 can access real-time information from Gemini and delivers more accurate image generation, according to Google. It is faster than before, follows instructions more precisely, and can accurately render text within images, making it especially useful for creating greeting cards or marketing materials.
For tasks requiring the most accurate information and highest quality, Nano Banana Pro remains available, while Nano Banana 2 is positioned for speed and precise prompt-following.
AI image and video generation tools that create high-quality visuals from just a few words are surging in popularity among users. OpenAI's Sora, launched in 2024, saw such overwhelming demand that CEO Sam Altman said their AI processors were almost melting. Adobe is also integrating AI more deeply into its creative tools.
However, as these AI tools become more widely used, creative companies are raising concerns about copyright infringement. ByteDance's Seedance AI video generator has faced fierce criticism from major Hollywood studios including Disney and Paramount over alleged intellectual property violations.
