Apple has officially introduced the iPhone Duo, its highly anticipated first foldable smartphone, with pre-orders starting October 16 and general availability on October 23 at $1,999.

The device features an impressive design with a 7.6-inch internal display and a 5.4-inch external display. When unfolded, the phone is only 5.2mm thick and weighs just 254 grams thanks to its titanium frame. The internal display features anti-glare technology and anti-smudge coating, while also carrying an IP68 water and dust resistance rating.

In terms of performance, the device is equipped with the new A20 Pro chip. However, for security, Apple has opted for Touch ID instead of Face ID. The battery performance is quite impressive, with Apple claiming up to 31 hours of continuous video playback on the internal display and up to 44 hours on the external display. Using both screens simultaneously provides approximately 24 hours of battery life.

The camera setup includes a 48MP main camera and a 48MP ultra-wide camera, but notably lacks a telephoto lens. However, the device features clever capabilities like Dual Capture, which allows simultaneous use of front and rear cameras, and Duo Preview, enabling subjects to see themselves on the external display while being photographed.

With Apple's entry into the foldable phone market, industry experts predict that global foldable phone sales will increase by over 12% this year. By the end of 2027, Apple is projected to sell over 17 million foldable units and potentially capture nearly 40% of the global foldable phone market.
