A father in China grew so concerned about his 23-year-old son being unemployed and spending all his time playing online games that he hired online hitmen (skilled gamers at high levels) to kill his son's character in the game.
The father would pay skilled gamers every time his son entered the game to ensure he would always be killed. He hoped that after frequently losing in the game, his son would become frustrated, quit gaming, and start looking for a job.
Every time the son played, he was repeatedly attacked by these online gamers. Eventually, he discovered his father's secret plan.
When the son found out about his father's scheme, he explained to his father that he wasn't avoiding work, but rather waiting for a "good job" that would be suitable for him.
This incident has become a widely discussed case online as an unusual attempt by parents to address the problem of children becoming addicted to online games.
The problem of gaming addiction among young people in China is such a major social challenge that the government has even issued restrictions to control it.
