Chinese automaker BYD has filed for a patent on March 24, 2026, for a "robot" that can charge EV cars without requiring car owners to get out of their vehicles, and can even inflate tires. The most impressive feature of this robot is that it can work with existing charging ports already installed in cars without requiring any modifications, so car owners don't have to worry about additional hassle.

This robot will scan cars in the parking lot and automatically know which car needs its battery charged and which car's tire pressure has dropped. After reading the information, it will use its robotic arms to perform the necessary tasks precisely. Therefore, car owners only need to park their cars and the robot will automatically handle everything from start to finish.

BYD is strongly entering the robot-based charging market, which is worth $580 million in China with this technology. Competing companies like Li Auto and CGXi are also following with rapid charging systems, so in the future, we will likely see scenes where robots charge and service cars right in parking lots.
