OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new service designed to serve as a personal health companion. It is a dedicated sandboxed tab within ChatGPT where users can ask health-related questions in a more secure, personalized way. For more accurate advice, OpenAI encourages users to connect health apps like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, Weight Watchers, and Function, as well as their own medical records. Through a partnership with b.well, users can upload medical records, and ChatGPT can then analyze lab results, treatment history, and exercise data. OpenAI warns the service is not intended for diagnosis or treatment, but notes that around 230 million people currently ask health questions weekly. Following past incidents where AI gave harmful advice, ChatGPT Health has been developed in collaboration with over 260 doctors to improve response accuracy. On mental health, OpenAI's Applications CEO said the service will address this area since it is part of overall health, but guardrails are in place to prevent users from becoming overly anxious, and the system will redirect to healthcare professionals in critical situations. From a privacy standpoint, conversations in the Health tab will not be used to train AI models. However, the service does not fall under healthcare laws like HIPAA. ChatGPT Health is currently available via a waitlist, with free and paid access to follow in the future. Ref: The Verge
