Renowned global pop star Dua Lipa has filed a lawsuit against South Korean tech giant Samsung for using her image on TV boxes without permission.
A backstage photo of her taken at a Texas music festival in 2024 was used by Samsung in TV packaging without obtaining authorization. The lawsuit alleges that this constitutes a serious violation of copyright and personal privacy rights.
Dua Lipa discovered that "Dua Lipa TV Box" products featuring her image were being sold across the United States in June 2025. After notifying the company to stop using her likeness, Samsung allegedly ignored the request, prompting her to pursue legal action seeking $5 million in damages.
Dua Lipa's legal team has stated that she never authorized such use in the past and will not permit it in the future.
The most troubling aspect is that Samsung allegedly misled consumers by using Dua Lipa's image as if she were endorsing the product.
On social media platform X, some consumers have commented that they purchased the TV boxes specifically because Dua Lipa's image appeared on the packaging, even though they had no prior intention to buy a television. The lawsuit emphasizes that the company profited from her image without authorization.
